Ahrefs alternative

Ahrefs Alternative for Daily Rank Tracking

Ahrefs is famous for its backlink index and its research tools, and they are excellent. Its Rank Tracker, though, has a limit worth knowing before you rely on it: according to Ahrefs' own help center, tracked keywords update weekly on every plan. The Lite plan costs $129 a month for 750 tracked keywords (October 2026), and the free Ahrefs account doesn't include Rank Tracker.

If you need to see what changed yesterday — after a site migration, a Google update or a new page going live — a weekly snapshot is too coarse.

Altitude is a rank tracker for the Mac that checks your keywords every day (or on weekdays, or weekly — your choice) through DataforSEO, paying the provider's own price of about $0.0006 per page of 10 results. You buy the app once.

What daily tracking costs with Altitude

750 keywords checked every day for the top 20 is 750 × 2 pages × 30 days = 45,000 pages a month. At DataforSEO's standard price of $0.0006 per page, that's $27 a month in data. Weekly checks of the same keywords, like Ahrefs, come to about $3.90 a month. See how DataforSEO pricing works for the details.

When Ahrefs is the better choice

  • Backlink research is your main job. Ahrefs' link index, Site Explorer and Content Explorer have no equivalent in Altitude. Altitude shows backlinks for your own site and competitors from DataforSEO when you ask for them, not a full research suite.
  • You need everything in one browser tab, for a team. Altitude is a Mac app and shares through PDF reports and CSV exports.

When Altitude is the better choice

  • You want daily positions. See the effect of a change the next morning, not next week.
  • You track many keywords on a budget. You pay for the checks you make, with no keyword cap.
  • You care about AI Overviews. Altitude records whether each keyword shows an AI Overview, whether it cites you and which domains it cites instead.

Using both

Many people keep Ahrefs for research and use a dedicated tracker for daily positions. Export your tracked keywords from Ahrefs as CSV, paste them into a new Altitude project with your market and device, and connect Search Console. You can try Altitude free with one project and two keywords.
